William Turner

What a week we have had at Maxwells! Our first auction of the year (online only) was a great success but what a long day. We had some great prices on the day but one of our favourites has to be Lot 461 William Turner 'East St, near Tommy Ducks' signed and attributed on reverse. This lot sold for a whopping £6400!! An unusual piece, one of his earlier works and bought by the vendors family from an exhibition of his work at the Pitcairn gallery 40 or 50 years ago. Doesn't this show that Northern school art really is desirable and increasing in value!
