TWO DAY SALE 20th / 21st JULY
Posted On: 29 Jun 2021 by Charlotte Blackmore

This will be a large sale including all the usual lots of silver, jewellery, ceramics, pictures, furniture etc. We also have over 80 lots of designer label clothes - evening dresses, trouser and skirt suits, jumpsuits, coats etc. Names include Armani, Escada, Marccain, Versace, even one Victorian Beckham. They are generally sizes 10 - 14. We have taken images of all the clothes on our very own volunteer models -they are both size 10 to give you an idea when you look at the pictures. Many of the items on offer have their original labels and were bought at a local widely known dress shop in Bramhall. There will also be a be a section to include toys and trains. We will publish the catalogue as soon as we have the majority of images available. Our caterer will not be available on Tuesday but will be with us on Wednesday 21st.

TWO DAY JUNE SALE 15th AND 16th
Posted On: 02 Jun 2021 by Charlotte Blackmore

This auction will be open to the public again for viewing and bidding in the room. Viewing is reduced these days but we do try to put as many images with the online catalogue as we can. The first day of this sale will include stamps - we know many of you need a little more time than usual to look through the lots of stamps on offer. If you are local and a regular stamp buyer - call us and we will try to provide an earlier viewing slot for you but this is dependant upon staff available. We have taken the decision to continue with two day monthly sales and to incorporate the sections from the old quarterly Collectors Sales on a rolling basis. Last month was militaria, this month stamps and books, July boutique designer clothes and toys. We are aiming to organise a valuation day/s again but this will be on a strictly appointment basis with items 'vetted' beforehand by photograph if possible.

2 day Auction 16th and 17th February
Posted On: 01 Feb 2021 by Charlotte Blackmore

As you may know, our January auction finished very late into the evening at 9.00pm which we felt was unfair on our clients and our staff, so this month we are going to try something different. Our February Auction will take place over 2 days starting on Tuesday 16th February at 12.00pm with lot 1 though to 249. This will include our vintage section along with miscellaneous and ceramics. We will then resume the auction on Wednesday 17th February at 10.00am at lot 250 through to the end of the catalogue. This will include silver, jewellery, furniture, pictures and clocks. Please remember this auction will be online only.

William Turner
Posted On: 22 Jan 2021 by Charlotte Blackmore

What a week we have had at Maxwells! Our first auction of the year (online only) was a great success but what a long day. We had some great prices on the day but one of our favourites has to be Lot 461 William Turner 'East St, near Tommy Ducks' signed and attributed on reverse. This lot sold for a whopping £6400!! An unusual piece, one of his earlier works and bought by the vendors family from an exhibition of his work at the Pitcairn gallery 40 or 50 years ago. Doesn't this show that Northern school art really is desirable and increasing in value!

COVID 19 UPDATE
Posted On: 12 May 2020 by Charlotte Blackmore

Good Morning from everyone at Maxwells !! We hope everyone is staying safe and well. We want to reassure everyone that we are still here and are determined to come back to work as soon as possible. Following the Boris Johnson's update on Sunday we want to try to clarify our position. As things stand the Auction Rooms remains CLOSED to the public. This is the advice for all auction rooms. We are continuing to provide a telephone service by answerphone - messages are picked up at least once a day - 0161 439 5182 Unfortunately we are still no clearer as to when we will be able to open Auction Rooms. We are classed within the retail classification and as it stands, the rules from government have not changed and all our routine autions have to be postponed until it is safe to reopen. We do not think at this stage a virtual online auction would be the way to go as there are just too many lots that need collecting rather than posting. We are reviewing the situation daily so keep checking with us. If you do need a valuation for Inheritance Tax or need some advice on goods you may wish to sell in due course - send an email or leave a message and max can have a chat with you. It may be possible to make some arrangements with email images and / or within the government restrictions to assist
